THANK YOU soo MUCH for posting this – I was having soo many issues with bank overdrafts because of facebook, I was an idiot and gave them my information and forgot when it was going to be taken out and didn’t realize it was an automatic outta paypal I clicked the end Advert account too – didn’t look like it did anything , my ad has run its course, didn’t do me much good though, but that’s not facebooks fault. I will check back in a few business days and see if its closed, in the mean time i canceled my agreement on paypal with facebook hopefully that will stop any further problems. I’m also taking my checking account and credit and debit cards off paypal and just request a check when i have money in there and use a prepaid cash money card when i need to put money on it.
Anyways Thanks again for this If i haven’t found this i would have been lost and still crying ( I’m stressed lol)

    Jenna,
Thank you for posting this. I severed the relationship between FB & PP because I couldn’t seem to close the ads account. (I’ve never even posted an ad!) Your “how to” was extremely helpful!

I was about to proceed with creating an ad for an upcoming class. Not many people are using FB ads in Bermuda so I think it’s a good strategy. However I only want it to run for 10 days and your blog is making me think I shouldn’t do it. Do you think I’ll be able to cancel it 10 days from now. Do you know if your method still applied now in the Fall of 2011?

I think things are the same or better. I ran an ad a few months back and some of the issues I faced the first time around were fixed.

If you run the ad you’ll have to wait until Facebook has been paid and all fees are tied up before removing the payment method. This can take a couple weeks. You will not be able to remove your payment method the last day of the ad or a short time after the ad stops. Payment has to be processed and complete.

I didn’t have any issues with my last ad. It ran, FB was paid, a couple weeks later I made sure my payment method (Paypal) was out of the system. It all went well.

      Good luck

My question for you though is if your cancellation is pending are they still charging you for the ad?

        • avatar JAScribbles says:

Probably. What are the details of your ad period? When do you have it set to stop? You don’t have to answer me. My advice to you is to chance your ad set up to stop soon, only allow to charge $X amount per day, only hit very few criteria, etc… Get your ad to stop first. Edit it to say you only want to spend $1.00 a day.

If you have your ad set to run for the next week or two, Facebook may not want to close it. Edit your ad to end. Select a new end day – such as tomorrow. You will need to pay for what you set upand what is currently being charged to you . The trick is to change that set up in order for it to end. Once it has ended, you will be done accuring fees and Facebook should be able to close your ad.

I haven’t visited the ads area in a long time so I hope my info is still helpful. Good luck with it.

          • avatar James says:

Yea, thanks for the info. Nah, the ad period is over but i initially thought it would stop after just a day but it was a “daily” thing so although i didnt lose a crapload of money i just wanted to be sure that it wasnt still charging me. So far it looks like its not which is good but its still pending which baffles me. I will keep an eye on it and hope that clears out soon. Thanks again.

You’re welcome. Facebook is confusing and it changes so often. Just when you figure out a task, they change how you do it. Ugh. :)

Mine says an advert was created and approved but I don’t know how they can charge me with nothing for my payment set up. Am I safe?

    • avatar JAScribbles says:

Hi Donna – I assume Facebook cannot charge you if you haven’t given them any credit card or paypal info – BUT if you have connected an app, game, contest, shopping thing, coupon deal, etc to a payment method, it is possible there is one stored in your Facebook account. Look around your settings to see if you have a payment method stored.

If not, I think you’re safe. If you look at your ad report and it doesn’t appear to be running or tallying up charges, you are not being charged.

Okay, I’m kind of scared because just today I used my paypal to buy some credits for a game I like, and which it only costed me 2.50 but once I purchased them I went and remove my paypal from my payment list. So now whenever I clicked on the payment option, my paypal info is not there. So does that mean that they got no more info on me?

    • avatar JAScribbles says:

Edit – It sounds like you are safe. But If I were you I’d go into Paypal and double check. Just remove FB or the game as a payee( or whatever the word is) Follow the steps i list in the post to remove them. Unlink the connection, etc but do it through your Pay pal account.

      Good luck

thank you so much, I also became so frustrated trying to remove my paypal information, even after someone made a unauthorized charge from fb to paypal, fb refunded it saying I done it by mistake, whatever just give me my money back and since then I’ve been trying to remove my paypal information. thank you so much

    Hi,

Many thanks for this link. Just used your paypal method to cancel my link to facebook.

On paypal, it says ‘Cancelled on [date]“.

    Once again, thanks!

    Hi,

FYI, after I cancelled my link to Facebook through paypal, I went to my facebook account and remove my payment method as well.

At the top right hand corner, there’s a little down arrow next to “Home”. Click on it and it would show a number of choices. Choose “Account Setting”. On the left side of this page, click on “Payments”. Then click “Payment Methods”.

As I have already removed my payment method, I’m not sure what follow.

Just follow the prompts and remove your link if you don’t want to have any financial links.

    All the best!
    Kheng
